Preventing and Thawing a Frozen Water Pipe

So where I live it gets really cold and snows.  Today was the coldest day so far and my pipes froze.  Mr. G isnt the handiest man ever, so we had to look up how to unthaw the pipes lol. 

Here is what we learned:

1. Be careful they might burst.
2. Shut the water off
3. Use a Hair dryer
4. Leave water dripping so they dont freeze again

So that is what we learned.  We used the hair dryer but ended up going to get a heating lamp.  Hopefully the pipes wont freeze again this winter because it is suppose to get colder.  But if they do we will know what to do.
